Night Rock was a program that shook the airwaves on a radio station local to me, WWJY, 103.9 FM Crown Point, Indiana.

Throughout the years the show disappeared a re-appeared in several different formats.

In 1989, after returning home from my first semester in college for broadcasting, I became an employee of WWJY Radio whose format was Business/Easy Listening during the day time, then local sports and a hodge podge of locally produced programs at night.

I resurrected Night Rock as a producer, but added a twist. We only featured local bands. I changed career fields along the way, however, the Night Rock days have always been a great rockin' memory for me.

The memories were so good that in 2004 I created NightRockRadio.com in order to showcase my freelance announcing business AnnouncerJoe.com.

The program started off as a hobby/project, with 15 minute podcasts featuring bands recruited from Craigslist.com. As word spread, the show became a weekly 30 minute, then 60 minute podcast. The word spread some more and Internet radio stations began airing the program. We added regional spotlights and even a Battle of the Bands at the request of our listeners and performers.

To be blunt, I am a producer and not a 'sales' person so attracting advertisers was not my strong suit. In order to quell some of the demand and make the program more profitable, I converted the show to a pay-for-play format. As a surprise to me, overall demand stayed about the same but our market shifted towards bands that were more established and small recording labels. I continued to produce a weekly hour long program. As an added bonus, AnnouncerJoe.com also began producing specialty features and 'rock blocks' that bands used on their websites and promotional materials.

With other business interests and responsibilities, in 2008 I sold the program format but retained the rights to the website and the name.

Per contract agreement, I have kept the website dormant for 24 months, which ended on Dec. 1, 2010.

The website is now for sale, including a copy of my original business plan.
